SYNOPSIS

Two wealthy young men, Mr. Darcy and Mr. Bingley, move to a small town in the English countryside called Longbourn, where over dinner and dance they meet the Bennet sisters.

The four young people, so different from each other, will get to know every aspect of their personality throughout the play, especially Lizzy and Darcy, whom we will see in the midst of a time full of prejudices and customs that limit the spirit. Darcy with his arrogant air as well as vain and Lizzy with her pride and her naturalness.

Love, prejudice, pride, falsehood and innocence make this work a sea of sensations very different through very colorful and representative characters of the time.

PERSONAL OPINION

When a book is world famous and there is so much talk about him, that no matter the passage of time, somehow you feel compelled to read it, to know what captivates each reader and why said work continues to be a benchmark despite the fact that more than 200 years have passed since its publication.

Jane Austen surprises with her way of writing, it amazes to read a woman whose thoughts were so advanced in her time.

Jane describes very picturesque and period-true characters: Mr. Bringley; the typical perfect man, not because of his way of being, but because of his money that makes him the point of view of all women. Mrs. Bennet whose only purpose in life is to marry off her five daughters, etc… And then there is Elisabeth who is inevitable to be fond of from the first line in which she is mentioned.

Elisabeth: A free and wild character who doesn't care about appearances and whose mentality is so similar to her writer that I wouldn't be surprised if she wrote it with herself in mind.

For those of us who have not read any such book, it is very shocking to read about certain behaviors and laws, Jane emphasizes these with her irony and her way of making them ridiculous to the point that they make you laugh. This book gives us a close and real vision of how people lived during that time and brings us closer to the way they had to relate to each other.

It is surprising how throughout the pages we see Darcy and Lizzy evolve and come to better understand their respective behaviors., reluctance and, of course, also their prejudices. Two characters who come close in the midst of an era that does not look favorably on a rich young man looking at a middle-class woman.

Definitely recommendable, although it is a type of reading that requires time due to the language used.

I loved Jane's irony and how through this book she expresses her way of seeing life at that time. I look forward to reading another of her books soon. Emma is on my list so don't be surprised that the next classic I review is that of this author.

PHRASES

A man in straits does not have as much time as other people to respect such elegant displays of propriety. Darcy

There is in me a stubbornness that prevents me from bowing to the will of others. Elizabeth

He liked the countryside and books, and these two hobbies were his main distraction. He only felt indebted to his wife for the amusement he got from her ignorance and her foolishness. This is not the kind of happiness that a man wants from his wife, but at the skirt of others, the true philosopher takes advantage of what he has. mr bennett
