New habits for the new year and how to stick to them

At the beginning of the year we always propose achieve certain goals or introduce new habits into our lives. That's what we're going to talk about today. Habits and what to do to fulfill them. I the first.

Let's start treating this year 2021 well that has just begun. It's not going to break. Let's try not to load this new year with too many things to do. The best thing is always to start the year giving thanks for everything.

You have to give thanks for everything, even for what didn't happen.

Goals for this year

I wanted to tell you a little about my goals for this year. Habits/goals that can be extrapolated to your life if you see that a small change is necessary.

When considering these objectives I asked myself a few questions. Because let's be honest: there are goals that we don't need to meet. They just don't add anything to our lives.

Don't measure your progress by someone else's ruler.

When I wrote these little habits I did it thinking about one thing: me. Sounds selfish yes, realistic too. I like to keep what I promise and be honest with myself It is a rule that I always try to follow.

That I roll up like a blind. We start now? I don't want to bore you, there is still a long year ahead.

  1. Reduce mobile phone use

I have said this over and over again in various posts. Looks like she's addicted to the phone. None of that, I'm a "normal" user. The question is that Excessive use of networks and mobile in general, it has normalized to such an extent that it is completely normal to be dining with someone who does not look you in the eye.

The mobile phone is a tool and if you neglect it, it will end up absorbing every minute of your day to day.

So that this does not happen I try monitor the time spent on mobile. Nowadays almost all phones have such tools. You can also download them.

Some applications: Quality Time, Your Hour or Checky.

Apart from this I have proposed some easy challenges to reduce usage time:

  • Do not take your mobile to places like the library
  • Use apps on the laptop
  • Do not use the phone after 9 at night and do not pick it up until 8 in the morning.
  1. Practice yoga more often

For those who love sports it is very easy switch from running to cycling. Just like that.

Regrettably we have lazier people. I'm one of them.

One of the discoveries that the quarantine left me was the Yoga. I started practicing it as a hobby and it has become my favorite activity. I feel good and at the same time I take care of my health.

I would like to be more constant and introduce it to my life until it becomes routine.

For this I have also made a small list of actions to achieve it. Do you dare to do yours with your favorite activity?

  • Do 30 minutes in the morning as soon as I get up. Every day from Monday to Friday.
  • Small session before going to bed 20 minutes. Biweekly
  1. Face my fear of undertaking

I already said this in my declaration of intent for this 2021. In case I forget I put it here too.

The world of entrepreneurship has always caught my attention. Among other things I can say that My way of being: independent and active pushes me to want to have my own business.

small actions that can help:

•Put an idea into practice

When you have an idea you have a treasure. That treasure must be cared for and pampered.

Ideas are like an insistent pixie that does not stop attracting your attention. But, if you don't pay attention to it, it's gone forever and you've already seen it.

This is so: some ideas are as volatile as lightning.

•Start with what is available

You don't have to have a lot of money to put an idea into practice. It really does not take more than the idea, a few resources and money that you can get while you work.

I remember that when I was a child I spent my afternoons making little houses, many of them didn't turn out well and I couldn't even finish them. On the other hand, others were so well built that I could use it for days (believe me, that was a lot). Well, something similar happens with entrepreneurship.

Use what little is available and be able to create something good enough.

  1. Read at least 1 Portuguese book every two months

That of proposing specific objectives is my thing. I could say read more Portuguese books, however my mind assumes that 1 every two months is a good number. Let's see if it's true.

Last year I was able to read a whole Saramago book. Saramagus! If it were a children's book I would be less proud (which is also very good).

And why Portuguese?

This year I would like getting into the habit of reading books in languages that I have never studied formally: mine is portuguese.

breadcrumbs to get it:

  • Read books already read in Portuguese version
  • Discover Portuguese writers. *If you know any Portuguese author leave it in the comments. I would appreciate it very much.
  • Books by writers I like
  1. practice patience

When they distributed patience I would be buying churros......

Too much patience drives me crazy. Having little is also desperate.

for me this is a handicap that I always propose to change. Although I admit that I have made small progress and that I am not a patient person by nature. Let's be honest.

For this:

•Practice mindfulness

•Be more patient with myself and with others

  1. Reduce speed

A little related to the previous one.

i would like to start do certain things slower and not like I'm running a half marathon.

In the West, known worldwide as the land of haste, it is an advantage to do things as quickly as possible (above Excel and English). However I think that it is not necessary to do everything quickly, as if they were waiting for us.

The break is a nice way to do things well while enjoying them more. Finding a balance for my active nature can be very rewarding.

Am I really in a hurry?

This question will be my great ally.

  1. Write every morning, every afternoon or every night

I have never used daily. Not when she was little.

I started writing quite recently and I feel that writing is a beautiful way of expressing the inexpressible. In addition to it is a habit that as a militant reader I would like to take and keep it forever. I like to write.

Although sometimes I write with spelling mistakes or I don't even understand myself. I like to write. When you like something you don't have to make it perfect, you don't even need to get it right.

When you like something Do it and enjoy it with love. Don't load your passion with the heavy load of perfection.

My little challenge is to try to write every day. In the morning, in the afternoon, on the bus, a line... I don't want to write manuscripts, I want to get into the habit of writing something every day. And if that something is: Arepa stuffed, then phenomenal (I'm sure I'll be eating one with my boyfriend at our favorite bakery). Hygge On Moment.

  1. Seek new forms of investment

Let's get serious.

My intention is not to be a Warren Buffett of life. But,…. but I would like very much learn to externalize my money in different ways.

I feel that If I start with this habit with what I have now, in the future it will be easier for me to manage money and I will have learned a lot about this.

Actions:

  • Books
  • Talk more about money. Conversations are an unmatched source of information (don't be offended by Google).

10. Spend more time outdoors

The last of them and one of the most necessary of all.

In the last decade it has been shown that we spend too many hours in closed places. You do not believe me?

Most people work indoors, when you leave work you go home and then if you feel like it we go to: shopping center, bar (in winter), games room, a friend's house.

I think you should spend more time outdoors. Even if it is winter I would like to challenge myself to go for a walk every day.

Actions:

  • Walk every day even for 10 minutes
  • take the long way
  • meeting friends for a walk
  • Make routes through towns or through the mountains

How to meet our goals

Now, it is not worth writing this tirade and not complying with it. You have to commit to what you want to achieve.

How? Analyzing, observing, studying what we are doing throughout the year.

I will be using this blog and the Asana project management app to measure my progress. Also, I will help myself small daily notes.

That is why I do not want to end this post here…. I would like to return to it at the end of the year. And to be able to take stock of the goals achieved, those that arise along the way and those that for different reasons we cannot achieve.

I wish you a happy new year 2021. A huge hug and if you read this, don't forget one thing:

Fall in love with the process and the results will come.
