What to see in Sitges in one day. The pearl of the Costa Dorada

Sitges, the pearl of the golden coast. A place with little white houses and windows blue, a little corner that still has modernist buildings. In this post I will mention some places you can see in Sitges in one day, Although you will surely want to return. Is a ideal city for a day trip or a weekend exploring its streets.

Sitges is a coastal city about 40 kilometers from the city of Barcelona. Among its most representative events is the famous Sitges Festival and one of its biggest parties is LGTVB Pride Day.

A coastal town that refuses to be considered a city. A little corner of relaxation with all its essence. From the moment you set foot in this town, it gives you that Mediterranean sensation in its purest form.

Being a small city, we can visit it in a day calmly.

From my point of view it is a place to put Slow Travel into practice (travel without haste) and dare to go at a slower pace through this city, which you will fall in love from the first step to the last.

How to get to Sitges from Barcelona.

It is very easy and we basically have 2 options available:

  • By train: R2S towards Vilanova. A while ago 6 stops to Sitges. It is a tour that becomes very enjoyable as you go much of the way along the coast. I recommend you take a double-decker train if you have the chance and you'll love seeing the Garraf coast from above. With its narrow streets and full of curves and the charm of its coastal towns full of white houses. The journey takes about 40 minutes.
  • By car: It takes practically the same as by train. The difference is that by car you go along the coast all the time and the views are even more impressive. The problem is parking when you arrive in Sitges.

I recommend that if you stay in Barcelona-city you choose the first option that is quite comfortable and just as fast.

Emblematic places to see in Sitges in one day

Among the things to see in Sitges you have churches watching over the sea to perfectly preserved colonial houses. In addition to Basque bars and taverns, there are quite a few, Sitges has a lot of cultural heritage to offer. An example is Maricel Palace.

  • From the train station to the Malecón.

Once you leave the Sitges station you will meet a city full of colors and streets of all sizes. I recommend you head towards the promenade (for now). Going down these streets you will realize the cultural diversity that exists in Sitges and something very curious: sus shops so peculiar.

In its streets you can find pirate-style gummy shops, not only children will be fascinated. Craft products typical of the region, crafts and shops full of imagination that you will love..

This is where your adventure in this very special city begins.

  • A colonial walk along the seafront.

It is very curious how many colonial houses What can we find in Sitges. Throughout the entire port, about 3 kilometers, we can appreciate those spectacular houses that remind us of a Caribbean city. They were built by emigrants from the Americas in the XNUMXth century. and they are today very well preserved.

The Sitges promenade is priceless. On the one hand the beautiful beach of Sitges, y for the other the houses, terraces and monuments that fight for your attention. Until you can see a church on a hill and in the distance, then you don't have eyes for anything else.

  • Towards the Church of Sant Bartolomé and Santa Tecla.

It is a Baroque church from the XNUMXth century and It is one of the emblems of Sitges.

A reward that shows us the city from above, next to the sea and that guides us towards the part with the most Mediterranean essence of the whole place. Once up we can appreciate the entire walk and, of course, delight ourselves with that beautiful moment that gives us the entrance to a unique part of Sitges.

  • Get lost in the Old Town.

Passing by the Church we find ourselves fully with the charm of this city. They call it La Perla de la Costa Dorada for a reason.

You will find remains of the old wall, museums everywhere and fishermen's houses in the pure Mediterranean style. This area is beautiful. I don't want to give you too many details because I think The nice thing is to discover the place by yourself. With map in hand and comfortable shoes.

Take it easy and savor every corner of this place. Get lost in its streets, rest on its terraces and something very curious that I hope you like: its workshops.

  • Sitges workshops.

I was not prepared for this when I went to Sitges.

As you walk through its streets you will see the occasional craftsman in his workshop, with the door open and a sign that says "workshop open to the public”. What a discovery!

These places are sacred to me and I wouldn't change it for anything. Is where creativity lives in its purest form and where we can see the kindness of the people of Sitges. And his art, of course! Don't miss them Come in and enjoy a piece of that art.

Usually these workshops are in particularly pretty houses, as if everyone had signed a contract for creativity.

  • Tapas and a good beer.

It is a city to eat quietly and more in summer, with the heat that it is. In those moments, you just want to have a snack and have a beer in the fresh air until the sun goes down a bit, and be able to continue with our route. We still have a little while.

The little terraces, they are so beautiful, they make you feel at home, or in a Julia Roberts movie (Have you seen Eat Pray Love?) Well, I mean something like that.

  • Sunset.

Who doesn't like a sun gate facing the sea? And if that sea is the Mediterranean we will have two things: warm water and warm nights.

Now it's time to relax our feet a bit and say goodbye to the day. In those moments the city calms down even more, as you ask us:When you return?.

  1. Very beautiful place.

  2. Well, I've been following you since now, beautiful!

I did not have the pleasure of visiting Sitges, I was barely able to visit the city of Barcelona a little when I was there in 2017. However, I hope to always return to your beloved Spain, with which I have been in love since I was a child, when I only knew it by name. history and geography books.

    A big hug from Mexico!

    1. Well, if one day you come here, don't forget to let me know and I'll show you unique corners, Barcelona is a beautiful city and if you have a little more time, it's worth getting to know the surroundings and going up to THE COSTA BRAVA, which is close to France and is a beauty.
At the moment we have to stay at home but I hope that soon we can enjoy the freedom we had before.
Greetings from this little corner of the world!

  3. How good is your post! Until we can travel safely again, it is a joy to discover good travel blogs to get ideas and have everything ready to "shoot" to continue discovering the world. I invite you to visit my blog too. Greetings

      1. Excellent! I hope you like my blog, now that we are "on stand by" remembering our trips, it is like reliving them and if you can also give ideas or help other travelers in their plans, great! . So while I wait to "shoot" out as soon as I can... In addition to completing my blog, I love reading many others to prepare the next getaways. Greetings, we keep reading! .

        1. In addition, when reading other blogs you discover hidden places that are charming, places that you would not know otherwise. I think that now we will change our way of traveling in a certain sense: more nature, more conscious, what do you think?

  4. Yes, totally agree, travel blogs are great because there are many corners that if it's not because someone tells you, you don't look for them, and you miss them. We will enjoy much more and we will intensely value each outing when this blessed pandemic passes, but until then, we must prioritize our health, so the best thing to do is wait by reading a travel blog, getting ideas and dreaming of planning our next trip without Covid. Greetings, we continue reading.

    1. That's how it is! Now it's time to stay at home and enjoy and value local tourism. It would be interesting to write about that. Now I value much more what I have in my area and I can't stop being surprised with beautiful places next to home. ☺️
